Bridge Watch Monitoring System (BWMS)
The Bridge Watch Monitoring System (BWMS) is meant to improve maritime safety through the monitoring of bridge activities and operator incapacitation that might result in accidents. It complies with IMO resolution MSC.128(75) and bridge class notations for single-person bridge operations and provides for uninterrupted awareness of the Officer of the Watch (OOW). It sends visual and audible warnings to inform the OOW, and in case of non-response, alerts the Master or other responsible officer. Critical functions are the system timer setup, mode set, backup navigator call, emergency call, reset of alarms, and setup/display bridge equipment alarms. The BWMS works automatically when the ship's autopilot is active unless the Master decides to turn off.
